A set of 3 bins will work for a daily waste of 500gm
Each bin consists of set of two telescoped buckets. The inner bucket is perforated at the base.
You add into the bucket veg and nonveg ,cooked or raw food.
Equal volume of dry waste is to be added to ensure the contents are moist but not soggy.
Add one gm of culture per kg to hasten the composting process.
Stir contents at least twice a day. This ensures that composting occurs odourlessly.
Always cover the top layer with sawdust/ crushed dried leaves/ coconut husks/ coco peat/ shredded paper. This will keep away the house flies/ fruit flies.
Every 2- 3 days or so you will notice compost Tea collects in the outer bucket( bottom). This can be diluted in 1:10 ratio with water and used for plants or it can be used as a drain cleaner. The tea does have a slight odour.
One composter typically takes about 5 days to fill up. Then move to the second bin and then third unit. Stirring each 2/3 times a day . By the 15th day the first composter is ready. Dry the contents for 3-4 days in a shady place and use for your plants.
In case you get odour/ insects add more dry waste and stir.
